James E. Horton Jr.

October 23, 1942 - April 22, 2023

It is with sadness we announce the transition of James E. Horton Jr., age 80, of Cincinnati, Ohio, who entered eternal rest on Saturday, April 22, 2023, in Cincinnati, Ohio.   He was born on October 23, 1942, in Welch, West Virginia.

A graduate of Douglas High School, Kingsport, Ed was also a board member of the Sons and Daughters of Douglass Alumni Association, serving for several years.  He graduated with a degree from Tennessee State University, and was also a Vietnam Vietnam.

Visitation is from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at the Walker Funeral Home - Mt. Healthy, 7272 Hamilton Avenue, Mt. Healthy (45231).   The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 am. 

Interment will follow at Dayton National Cemetery.

Douglass Alumni Meeting this Saturday, April 15th

The Sons and Daughters of Douglass Alumni Association Board will meet this coming Saturday, April 15, 2023.

The meeting will be held at 1 PM in the Eastman Conference Room, 2nd floor, V.O. Dobbins Sr. Tower, 301 Louis Street in Kingsport.

****SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT V.O. DOBBINS BUILDING PARKING****

The V.O. Dobbins Center parking lot is being sealed and striped this coming weekend, Saturday and Sunday.  The parking lot will be closed from Friday, 7 PM until Monday at 7 AM.  Please park along Louis Street while attending the Douglass Alumni meeting.  You will be able to walk up to the V.O. Dobbins Tower South Entrance, you just can't drive up to it.

Among our topics of discussion will be the upcoming Douglass Alumni Reunion, to be held on Friday June 30th, Saturday July 1st, and Sunday July 2nd.

We are scheduled to have some special guests that are special to our school attending the Reunion this time around.  Every student of Douglass will appreciate the guests and what they have to say.
