Mt. Calvary Church Services Relocated in Knoxville

THIS OPEN LETTER TO ALL FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF MT. CALVARY BAPTIST CHURCH, KNOXVILLE, HEAVILY DAMAGED IN A FIRE THIS WEEK, FOLLOWED BY THE KNOXVILLE NEWS-SENTINEL ARTICLE ABOUT THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE

Dear members, family, and friends:

It's truly time now for us to come together as a family and a community. There will be more information to come; however, I wanted to get the word out immediately about where we will be having Sunday morning service. (December 12).

This Sunday's service will be held at Austin East High School in their auditorium. Austin East's address is 2800 Martin Luther King Jr Avenue in

Knoxville. Deacons and ushers will direct you as to the exact location of the service upon your entry into Austin East. Sunday's service will begin promptly at 10:00a. Due to the difficulty of location and placement issues, there will be no Sunday School classes for the rest of this month. The hope is that we will be able to get back into Mount Calvary on the third Sunday. That will only be possible if the Fellowship Hall is able to accommodate worship services. As of right now, all planned activities for the month of December have been canceled. Let us remember to pray one for another.

If I've missed someone on this distribution list, please forward this email on to them. If you know of a member who does not utilize email, please give them a call and share the news about Sunday's service. If someone is willing to take on the responsibility of keeping up with a phone tree (members who do not utilize email), just let me know so that I can get those numbers to you. Please help me get the word out. Again there is more information to come.

Prayerfully,

Renae Humphrey, Mount Calvary Church Clerk

KNOXVILLE - The fire that gutted Mt. Calvary Baptist Church started in the baptismal pool, authorities said today.

Interviews with church members and video from security cameras pinpointed the fire's origin to the pool, near the water heater used to warm up for baptisms, Knoxville Fire Department Capt. D.J. Corcoran said.

"We feel confident it was accidental," he said.

No injuries were reported in the fire Monday, what Knoxville firefighters called one of the larger blazes they had seen since the historic McClung warehouses caught fire downtown in February 2007.

Knoxville firefighters responded at 4:42 p.m. to the initial report of heavy smoke in the church at 1807 Dandridge Ave., just east of downtown.

Eight parishioners inside smelled smoke, saw the fire in the sanctuary on the western side and got out unhurt.

The congregation plans to rebuild.
