Black History Day and Arts Workshops

Kingsport's Renaissance Center
1200 E. Center Street
Noon - 6 PM

Artists will be conducting workshops in music, drumming, dance, storytelling and graphic arts. In addition, there will be African cuisine sampling, and headwrap designs workshops.


Artists-in-residence will include:

Quian Hale - Nashville Graphics Designer: Graphic and Computer Arts

Carlton "Starr" Releford - Actor/Singer with Knoxville's Carpetbag Theater-Acting

Megan Adair - Swing Dance Instructor" Knoxville Community Arts School

Richard Hicks, Jr - Drumming

Gerie Hicks - African Cuisine

Lavonda Price - Local Hairstylist

Kate Augman - Storyteller: "The Fiber of Freedom-Use of Quilts on the Underground Railroad"

Lydia Wilson - Mixed Media Textile Artist in Johnson City: Visual Arts

Exhibits on Display:
*A quilt that students made at last year's workshop
*Douglass High School Alumni
*Displays of prominent American Black Artists provided by members of the Arts Council
