IT'S ON! The Riverview Apartments Brick Giveaway-Pickup is Now Set!

It's now official..

Saturday, March 15th, beginning at 11 A.M. is the day that folks who ordered souvenir bricks from the demolition of the Historic Riverview Apartments can pick them up.

So far, Johnnie Mae Swaggerty has been contacted by over 400 people wanting souvenir bricks, and, in cooperation with the demolition company D. H. Griffin, the Kingsport Housing and Redevelopment Authority and the Upper East Tennessee Human Development Agency, folks will be able to stop by and pick up the bricks they ordered.

The waiting list is scattered with people we all know.. Kingsport Mayor Dennis Phillips, and business leaders and community leaders from all over Kingsport. The Douglass Alumni Association plans to have many bricks imprinted with the names of prominent citizens of Riverview, no longer with us. Some of the bricks will also make up a memorial to be put up on the site of the new HOPE VI Development Project.

THE SOUVENIR BRICKS COLLECTED FROM EACH APARTMENT ARE HERE IN THIS PILE IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS PICTURE.. THEY ARE BEING MOVED TO A SECURE LOCATION FOR THE PICKUP---CLICK ON THE PICTURE FOR A MUCH CLOSER VIEW

The exact place is being worked out for the brick pickup, but please mark your calendar and spread the word.. Saturday, March 15th at 11 A.M. Light refreshments will be served in the Douglass Gym.

If you cannot make it, please arrange to have someone pick up your brick or bricks for you. We may not have storage space after March 15th.
