"The Day the Earth Stood Still in Riverview"

50 Years ago on October 4, 1960.. Life in Riverview came to an abrupt halt. Eastman's Aniline Plant just off Wilcox Boulevard and right next-door to Riverview, exploded, killing 16 people.

The Kingsport Times-News has just commemorated the worst industrial accident in upper East Tennessee history, and since Riverview was the hardest-hit community in Kingsport, we thought we'd take you back to that fateful day to remember it from the eyes of the people hit the hardest. Since the Eastman Explosion happened right in our own backyard, we've got you covered on what happened that day.

Our hearts go out to the families of the victions of this disaster, and the employees in our community and surrounding areas, who still live with the tragedy.
