A driver died Monday night (October 4, 2010) when his 1997 Ford Expedition flipped on I-24 between Clarksville and Nashville.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol said Connie Benjamin (Bennie) Swann, 66, of Bristol, was eastbound around 8 p.m. when his vehicle left the roadway, traveled across the raised median, then overturned and rolled on the westbound shoulder of the road, ending up on the median.

Swann was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene. His passenger, 31-year-old Kamilah Michelle Lollis Long, of Morristown, was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center where she remains in critical but stable condition.

The accident, and events leading up to it, is still under investigation.

EDITOR'S NOTE---We're told Bennie will be brought back home to Kingsport for funeral and burial. Please watch the PASSINGS AND OBITUARIES link for more information.
